41-year-old identified as former company director in India; police suspect cannabis-induced hallucinations
An Indian-origin man was arrested in Bangkok after he allegedly threatened people by pointing a gun-shaped lighter and shouting loudly in front of a hotel in the city’s busy commercial district, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.
According to the Bangkok Post, the incident occurred on Monday evening when the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Sahil Ram Thadani, was seen walking around shouting and waving what appeared to be a handgun. Videos circulating on social media show him hurling abuses and making threatening gestures toward pedestrians and motorists.
The man was detained outside Novotel Bangkok in Siam Square Soi 6 after alarming passersby with his erratic behaviour
Police and security officers swiftly arrived at the scene to control the situation. Despite repeated warnings, Thadani refused to surrender and even pointed the object at officers before being restrained. The weapon was later identified as a cigarette lighter shaped like a gun.
He was subsequently taken to the Pathum Wan police station and charged with threatening behaviour and causing a public disturbance. Authorities suspect that Thadani’s actions were influenced by hallucinations linked to cannabis use.
Investigations revealed that Thadani had previously served as a director of three companies in India, all of which have since ceased operations, according to police sources cited by the Bangkok Post.
The incident has sparked discussion online about stricter control of realistic-looking imitation weapons and cannabis-related behavioural incidents in Thailand.
