A 22-year-old Indian-origin student named Sahil has been reported missing in Toronto, Canada, triggering concern within the local Indian community and among his family and friends, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

Sahil was last seen in the yonge-dundas area wearing a white shirt and carrying a backpack.

Toronto Police Service (TPS) said Sahil was last seen on Friday, May 16, 2025, around 1 pm near the Yonge Street and Dundas Street West intersection, specifically at Dundas Station. He is described as approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, slim-built, and was last seen wearing a white collared shirt, black jacket, blue jeans, and black running shoes. He was also carrying a black and grey backpack.

TPS has released CCTV footage on its YouTube channel showing Sahil walking in the area to assist in locating him. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward

This incident adds to rising safety concerns among Indian nationals in Canada. Just weeks earlier, Dharmesh Kathiriya, a permanent resident originally from Surat, Gujarat, was brutally stabbed to death by a neighbour in Ontario. The incident occurred while he and his wife were doing laundry in their backyard. The attacker also attempted to stab his wife, but Dharmesh intervened to protect her. He succumbed to multiple stab wounds at the scene.

Dharmesh, originally from Nonghanvadar village in Bhavnagar district, had moved to Canada five years ago for higher education and eventually secured permanent residency.

The back-to-back incidents have raised concerns within the Indian diaspora, prompting renewed calls for enhanced safety measures for international students and immigrants in Canada.
