Most assistance comes from Saudi Arabia
Families of some migrant workers, who died during their stay in a foreign country, receive financial assistance through the Indian embassies.
At least 31 families of migrant workers from Sultanpur district in the Indian State of Uttar Pradesh received assistance from the countries where the migrant workers were living, said a report in Amar Ujala.
According to the district administration, the government keeps the details of people going abroad for employment. Some of them have insurance, while the governments of respective countries provide financial assistance to the families of the deceased through the Indian embassies.
Most of such assistance came from Saudi Arabia, said the sources in the district administration.
“The families of 16 migrant workers from the district, who died in Saudi Arab, got the financial assistance.”
The district administration cited one case of Nisar Ahmed, a resident of Gangev village of Jaisinghpur.

Upon his death, his wife was given assistance of Rs 28.5 lakh from the Government of Saudi Arabia through the Indian Embassy.
The district administration transferred the amount to the account of the wife of the deceased.
“Family verification is done on receipt of information about the death of the migrants living abroad. After verification, the amount received through the Indian embassies is transferred in the dependents’ account through cheque.”
