Important updates to Indian passport rules could impact renewals and UAE visa procedures
If you’re an Indian living in the UAE, there are some crucial passport rule changes you need to be aware of. The Indian government has introduced new regulations to enhance security and protect personal data. While these updates may not affect everyone, they are essential for passport renewals and new applications. Missing out on these details could lead to unnecessary delays or complications with your UAE visa, reported gulfbuzz.com.
Colour-Coded Passports Introduced
India has implemented a new colour-coded passport system to categorize travelers:
- White – For government officials
- Red – For diplomats
- Blue – The standard passport for ordinary citizens
For NRIs in the UAE, the blue passport remains unchanged.
Birth Certificate Now Mandatory for Passport Applications
If your child was born on or after October 1, 2023, a birth certificate is now the only valid proof of birth for passport applications.
Other previously accepted documents will no longer be valid. The birth certificate must be issued by:
- The Municipal Corporation
- The Registrar of Births and Deaths
- An official body recognized under the Indian Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969
Residential Address No Longer Printed
To enhance privacy and security, passports will no longer display the holder’s residential address on the last page. Instead, this information will be embedded in a barcode, which immigration officials can scan when necessary.
Parents’ Names Are No Longer Required
Indian passports previously included a section for parents’ names on the last page. This requirement has now been removed to protect individual identity and prevent complications related to family status.
What This Means for NRIs in the UAE
If you’re an Indian expat in the UAE, these passport changes could impact your renewal process, visa applications, and travel plans. Staying updated on these new rules will help you avoid last-minute issues with UAE immigration procedures.
Before your next trip, double-check your passport details to ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience!
