Brunei Darussalam opens doors for bilateral cooperation with India

The High Commissioner said that both India and Brunei Darussalam enjoyed a long-standing cordial relationship that dates back to the independence of his country in 1984. This relationship was characterised by cooperation, goodwill, and mutual respect, he said.

Dato Alaihuddin Mohamad Taha, High Commissioner of Brunei Darussalam said that the South East Asian island nation would expand bilateral cooperation with India into new areas, including tourism in the coming years. Taha was speaking at an event organised to celebrate the 38th National Day of the country in Delhi.

The High Commissioner said that both India and Brunei Darussalam enjoyed a long-standing cordial relationship that dates back to the independence of his country in 1984. This relationship was characterised by cooperation, goodwill, and mutual respect, he said.

While Brunei Darussalam and India share strong cooperation in areas like defence, health, education, etc., the High Commissioner said that there was a strong intent to expand this cooperation into many new areas, particularly tourism.

High Commissioner Taha said that his country has several advantages for trade and investment in many areas. Brunei Darussalam has a well-educated and English-speaking young population. 

Additionally, there was a stable and committed government that valued investments. Its strategic central location in South East Asia with good connectivity was another key advantage, the High

Commissioner added. 

He said that 2022 had special significance in the ASEAN-India relationship as it was the 30th anniversary of the partnership.
