Lepakshi temples to get world heritage site tag

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) is on an exercise to pitch ‘Lepakshi Group of Temples’ in Anantapuram for the Unesco world heritage site tag. A Varaprasada Reddy, Chairman, APTDC, said that they had prepared a plan for achieving the UNESCO world heritage site tag for Lepakshi. “It is a golden opportunity for us and we will keep our efforts to make it happen,” Reddy said.

“A six-member expert panel has been constituted to pursue the matter.”

The APTDC appointed APPFCS Limited, an empanelled consultant, to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The consultant will take up an existing situation analysis on Lepakshi temples, tangible and intangible heritage resources review on ‘Lepakshi Heritage Site’ in consultation with heritage and conservation experts.

Reddy said that a six-member experts panel has been constituted to pursue the matter. Dr. Siva Nagi Reddy CEO, Pleach India Foundation; Buddhist expert consultant, Buddhavanam, TSTDC, Ch. Babji Rao, deputy superintending archaeologist (Retd.), ASI, Bhujang Ramrao Bobade, director, Heritage Foundation, Jalgaon, Birad Rajaram Yajnik, Trustee, IGNCA (Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts, Madhu Votturi, conservation architect, expert member, ICOMOS cultural tourism, Unesco workshop consultant are the experts.
