On Wednesday, November 2, he overtook former Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene 1016 runs in the seventh over of the Indian inning during India’s Super 12 match against Bangladesh.
Kohli 33, who boasts of an average of more than 80 and a strike rate of over 130 in T20 World Cups, has 12 half-centuries to his credit across all editions of the T20 World Cup, including two in the ongoing edition.
The right hander has been in great form in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. After a match-winning knock of 82* against Pakistan, he also hit 62 against Netherlands. Kohli could only score 12 runs against South Africa.
He is also the highest run-getter in all T20 internationals ahead of compatriot Rohit Sharma (3811), New Zealand’s Martin Guptill (3531) and Pakistan skipper Babar Azam (3239).
Kohli was the leading run-getter in 2014, when his 319 runs carried India to the final, where they lost to Sri Lanka. While in 2016 edition of the tournament, Kohli had finished in the second spot after India exited in the semi-final stage.
