Canada attracted largest number of Indian students in 2022

China came in second, with 52,165 student visas approved, while The Philippines (23,380 visas) rounded off the top three. A record number of new international students reached Canada in 2022. According to the data released by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a record 551,405 international students from 184 countries came for studies to Canada in 2022.

Of these, the number of Indian students was the highest: over 226,450 visas were approved. China came in second, with 52,165 student visas aproved, while The Philippines (23,380 visas) rounded off the top three.

In 2021, 444,260 new study permits were given out, an increase from the 400,600 in 2019. In 2019, there were 637,860 international students in Canada.

According to the latest figures, 107,145 more study permits took effect in 2022 versus in 2021.

As of December 31, 2022, there were also 807,750 international students holding valid study permits, another all-time high.

Indians, again, topped the list, with 319,130 students currently enrolled in Canada. China (100,075 students) and The Philippines (32,455 students) came in second and third, respectively.

THE PROVINCES WITH THE MOST NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WERE:

  1. Ontario (411,000 students)

  2. British Columbia (164,000 students)

  3. Quebec (93,000 students)

  4. Alberta (43,000 students)

  5. Manitoba (22,000 students)
