The Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC) has strongly condemned and refuted the recent denial of Muslim persecution by India’s Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman.

The Council has called for a retraction of her insensitive remarks and demanded that the Indian government take concrete steps to address the rising persecution of Muslims in the country.

The statement came in response to Sitharaman’s comments at a recent event, where she denied that Muslims were being targeted in India and instead accused the opposition parties of spreading misinformation and dismissed ‘reports’ by the west.

The Council has urged the Indian government to uphold the constitutional rights of all citizens, regardless of their religion, and to take steps to end the persecution of Muslims in the country

The IAMC has criticized her remarks as being both insensitive and factually incorrect, pointing to numerous reports of Muslim lynchings, mob violence, and discriminatory policies.

The IAMC has also expressed concern over the increasing marginalization and exclusion of Muslims in India, citing the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens as examples of discriminatory policies that target the community.

The Council has urged the Indian government to uphold the constitutional rights of all citizens, regardless of their religion, and to take steps to end the persecution of Muslims in the country.
