Amid the ongoing turmoil in violence-stricken Niger, the Indian government has taken steps to ensure the safety of its citizens. On August 11, the External Affairs Ministry announced its vigilant monitoring of the situation and urged Indians residing in the West African nation to promptly depart from the country.

The advisory issued by the ministry stressed, “India is actively monitoring the unfolding events in Niger. Given the current circumstances, Indian nationals whose presence is not deemed essential are strongly recommended to make arrangements for their departure from the country without delay.”

As the situation continues to evolve, the Indian government remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens in Niger and will continue to provide necessary updates and guidance

It’s important to note that the airspace is presently closed, and individuals departing through land borders are advised to exercise the utmost caution to guarantee their safety and security. The advisory underlined the significance of reconsidering travel plans to Niger for those who might be intending to visit in the near future, until the situation stabilizes.

In addition to these measures, the Indian government has also emphasized the importance of registering with the Indian Embassy in Niamey for citizens who have not yet done so. This step is seen as essential to facilitate efficient communication and assistance during these challenging times.

As the situation continues to evolve, the Indian government remains committed to safeguarding the well-being of its citizens in Niger and will continue to provide necessary updates and guidance.
