Johannesburg : In the first in-person BRICS Summit after three consecutive years of virtual meetings because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BRICS leaders discussed major global developments and ways to leverage the five-member bloc’s platform for solutions to global challenges, a PTI report in The Tribune, Chandigarh, says.
The BRICS bloc comprises Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa that brings together five of the largest developing countries of the world. It represent 41 per cent of the global population, 24 per cent of the global GDP and 16 per cent of the global trade.
The Indian Prime Minister arrived here on Tuesday, August 22 on a three-day visit to South Africa and Greece 15th BRICS Summit is also being attended by over 20 heads of state from Africa and the Middle East and a number of them have applied to BRICS for membership
Earlier, the prime minister spoke at the BRICS Business Forum Leaders’ Dialogue.
