Many Indian expats in Kuwait laid off

Sources within the Ministry of Public Works have verified the dismissals, emphasizing the elimination of expatriates from supervisory and leadership roles

Numerous Indian expatriates in Kuwait are facing termination from their jobs, as the Ministry of Public Works takes a decisive step towards Kuwaitization in government sectors. According to keralakaumudi.com, 283 expatriates have been let go as part of this initiative, reducing the expatriate workforce significantly over three and a half years. As of August 17, 2023, only 242 expatriates remain employed in the Ministry.

Sources within the Ministry have verified the dismissals, emphasizing the elimination of expatriates from supervisory and leadership roles. This move is in direct alignment with the government’s policy, which mandates the exclusion of non-Kuwaitis from such key positions within the Public Works Department. The decision reflects a broader governmental initiative aimed at implementing Kuwaitization across various departments, resulting in job losses for expatriates, particularly those from India, who are now compelled to return to their home countries.
