Almost one month has passed since five Telangana men were released from Dubai jail for the alleged murder of a Nepali man. They expressed happiness as all five are trying to merge with the mainstream of life.

After enduring an 18-year ordeal in a foreign land, five men from Telangana, India, finally breathed the air of freedom as they were released from imprisonment in Dubai and repatriated to their homeland. The heartwarming reunion with their families at Hyderabad airport on February 20 marked the end of a long and arduous journey, Khaleej Times reported.

The report quoted SV Reddy, the convenor of the Telangana Gulf NRI cell. He narrated the emotional homecoming of the men—Shivarathri Mallesh, Shivarathri Ravi, Gollem Nampally, Dundugula Laxman, and Shivarathri Hanmanthu—all hailing from the Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana. These individuals, once construction workers in Dubai, had their lives upended when they found themselves confined to the Sonapur Labour Camp under incarceration.

Stripped of their passports and travel documents, the men faced hurdles in returning home. However, with the assistance of the Indian consulate, a white passport was issued, facilitating their repatriation

The road to their freedom was paved with efforts from both local and governmental authorities. Reddy recounted the pivotal role played by a Telangana government minister who personally intervened by visiting the family of a deceased security guard, seeking a ‘No Objection Certificate’ crucial for the release process. Subsequently, the minister journeyed to Dubai to advocate on behalf of the men, appealing to the local authorities for their liberation.

Their release from prison on February 18 marked a significant milestone, although it came with its own set of challenges. Stripped of their passports and travel documents, the men faced hurdles in returning home. However, with the assistance of the Indian consulate, a white passport was issued, facilitating their repatriation.

Expressing profound gratitude, Reddy extended thanks to the UAE authorities, the Indian consulate, and the Telangana government for their collective efforts in securing the release of the five individuals. Their return not only signifies the triumph of perseverance but also serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion across borders. As they embrace their loved ones once again, their story stands as a beacon of hope amidst the trials of life.

According to Times of India, after nearly two decades behind bars in a UAE prison for the alleged murder of a Nepali man, five individuals from Rajanna Sircilla district have at last regained their freedom. Their return to home soil unfolded gradually: two of them made their way back on Wednesday, one had returned earlier in the week, another about two months prior, while the fifth member of the group is anticipated to arrive shortly. Their entanglement in the legal ordeal commenced a mere half-year following their relocation to the UAE.

The quintet found themselves convicted of the homicide of a Nepali watchman named Bahadur during the mid-2000s, receiving a harsh 25-year sentence. On the recent homecoming of two of these individuals, a video circulated on X, capturing the emotional reunion of brothers Shivarathri Mallesham and Ravi from Peddur village with their awaiting family at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). This heartwarming moment was made possible in part by the efforts of former minister and Sircilla MLA KT Rama Rao, who played a pivotal role in securing their release.
