In a significant achievement in the fight against international crime, authorities have successfully extradited Dipakkumar Dhirajlal Thakkar, the alleged mastermind behind a massive gambling racket valued at over Rs 2,273 crore. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), in collaboration with Gujarat police and Interpol’s NCB-Abu Dhabi, coordinated efforts to bring Thakkar back to India after he was apprehended in the UAE.

Thakkar has been a fugitive since March 25, 2023, when a criminal case was registered against him at Madhavpura police station in Ahmedabad. He is accused of leading an international gambling operation that utilized sophisticated software applications and illicit hawala channels to manage and disperse crime proceeds exceeding Rs 2,273 crore.
Authorities had issued a Red Notice against Thakkar, who is wanted for multiple charges, including criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, destruction of evidence, and violations under the Information Technology Act and the Prevention of Gambling Act. His return marks a pivotal moment in the crackdown on illegal gambling and cybercrime networks.
