With top universities like MIT, Stanford, and Harvard consistently ranking among the best globally, Indian students are confident that studying in the U.S. will lead to unrivaled academic and career opportunities
Indian students remain keen on studying in the United States, drawn by its academic excellence, global reputation, and extensive opportunities, reported edexlive.com.
Recent data highlights the increasing demand for U.S. student visas, as evidenced by the 10,000 slots filled within minutes at the U.S. Consulate in Hyderabad. This surge prompted an extension of the student visa season by two weeks, demonstrating the relentless pursuit of the ‘American Dream’ in academia.
Many students, like Yukta Kulkarni, pursuing a Master’s in Construction Management at Northeastern University, Boston, describe studying in the U.S. as a lifelong aspiration. “Studying here has always been a dream of mine,” she said, expressing excitement about her journey. The U.S. consistently ranks as the top choice for international students, especially from India, due to its unmatched educational infrastructure and abundant career opportunities.
Ayaachi Jha, who recently gained admission to the University of Chicago for a master’s program, emphasizes, “The USA is ideal for my field because it leads the world in technology, startups, and networking.” This sentiment is echoed by students like Tarun Joshi, pursuing his MS in Engineering Management at Northeastern University, who shares the firm belief that the U.S. offers unparalleled prospects for professional and academic growth.
The combination of cutting-edge research, diverse learning environments, and robust post-graduate prospects ensures that the United States remains a top choice for Indian students, year after year
According to the Oxford International Student Global Mobility Index of 2022, 69% of respondents preferred the U.S. for higher education. For Indian students, U.S. universities saw a 35% increase in enrollment during the 2022-23 academic year, solidifying its position as the most sought-after destination for higher education. The spokesperson from the U.S. Consulate General in Hyderabad noted, “Indian students have been traveling to the U.S. in record numbers for the past three years, and the United States is proud to welcome them.”
What sets U.S. universities apart is not only their prestige but also their vast alumni networks, which provide critical support for internships, job placements, and mentorships. The relationships students form with peers and professionals are often lifelong, offering continuous personal and professional growth. Ayaachi Jha, who plans to return to India to start her business, believes these connections will prove invaluable in her entrepreneurial journey.
Additionally, the U.S. government is taking steps to accommodate this high demand. U.S. Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, recently shared that President Joe Biden has ordered the embassy and consulates in India to prioritize student visas, especially as other countries tighten immigration laws. The consulate extended student visa slots from mid-May to mid-August and plans to continue this flexibility in future years.
Ankur Nyati, President of upGrad Abroad, aptly sums up the appeal, “The USA offers a blend of world-class education, technological leadership, and multicultural classrooms. Indian students are naturally attracted to the ‘American Dream,’ driven by the success of the Indian diaspora and the country’s reputation as the land of opportunity.”
