Malaysian court fines 70-year-old Indian man

PRAVASISAMWAD.COM

A 70-year-old Indian man, Satyanarayana Prasad Papoli, was fined $1,168 by a Malaysian court for wearing clothes deemed supportive of the LGBTQ community during a charity run in Johor, Malaysia.

The event, intended to raise funds for the Spastic Children’s Association of Johor, saw Papoli and 66-year-old Arthur Wang from Taiwan fined for “inappropriate” attire.

Footage of the event showed some participants cross-dressing and wearing rainbow socks, which were interpreted as symbols of LGBTQ support.

In Malaysia, LGBTQ activities are not widely accepted. Papoli, a former lawyer, has since apologized.
