This celebration not only honored the core values of Diwali—unity, compassion, and hope—but also exemplified the community’s desire to create a brighter future for all
The Empire State Building lit up in radiant colors to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights, thanks to a collaboration between the Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) and Empire State Realty, reported newsindiatimes.com.
This dazzling display began on October 30, a day before Diwali, which this year fell on October 31. Diwali, observed by millions globally, signifies light triumphing over darkness, wisdom over ignorance, and good prevailing over evil—a message FIA emphasized in its announcement.

In addition to the lighting, FIA brought the spirit of Diwali to life through its annual Diwali Soup Kitchen drive, serving over 4,000 meals across New Jersey and extending support to communities in India, including Ranchi and Ahmedabad.

The initiative aligned with Diwali’s themes of compassion and generosity, resonating with those in need during the festive season
For the Indian American community, Diwali serves as both a celebration and a testament to cultural heritage. FIA leaders highlighted that lighting up such a well-known landmark is a meaningful acknowledgment of the contributions and cultural importance of the Indian diaspora within American society.
“For our community, this festival reaffirms our heritage and fosters unity,” they shared. This illumination reflects both the strength of Indian cultural identity and its value within the multicultural fabric of the United States.
