The NRI Premier League (NPL) is set to bring excitement and camaraderie to Kanpur’s NRI City Township, as its second edition kicks off on November 5, 2024, and runs through November 11, timesofindia.indiatimes.com reported.

This year, eight teams featuring players aged 17 to 60 will compete in 15-over matches, fostering a sense of community and inclusion among NRI residents. Organizers emphasized that each team must include three veteran players, who will both bowl and bat for three overs, reflecting a commitment to intergenerational participation and sportsmanship.

The tournament’s appeal extends beyond traditional cricket, with special programs scheduled for children and women. Children’s matches will take place on Sunday evenings, and women’s teams will compete in late-evening games. Matches will be played under floodlights from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., adding to the tournament’s professional ambiance and spectator appeal.

  • The tournament brings together eight senior cricket teams, offering a showcase of talent from clubs across the region, including Khandekar Cricket Academy, Winners Club, and Kanpur Cricketers

The organizing committee, represented by Manish Maheshwari, has intentionally designed the event to promote social cohesion among the approximately 700 families residing in NRI City. Satish Pandey, another committee member, highlighted the event’s primary goal: to strengthen connections within the community by providing a fun and engaging platform for residents to interact and support one another.

In another local sports update, the UP Olympic Association recently announced the selection of the UP road cycling team for the upcoming National Championship. The team, chosen from trials held on October 27, includes cyclists from various age groups, with a strong emphasis on maintaining standards and ensuring rider licenses are up-to-date. The cyclists selected represent a cross-section of talent from across the state, enhancing the competitive edge of Uttar Pradesh’s contingent.
