India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri visits Japan  

This visit reaffirmed the enduring bond between India and Japan, built on shared democratic values, mutual respect, and a commitment to regional peace and stability

On November 27, 2024, Foreign Secretary Shri Vikram Misri undertook his inaugural official visit to Japan, marking a significant step in enhancing the India-Japan partnership. During this visit, he engaged in high-level discussions with senior Japanese officials, focusing on bolstering bilateral cooperation across diverse domains.

A pivotal highlight of the visit was the first round of the Dialogue on Economic Security and the FS-Vice Ministerial Dialogue with Masataka Okano, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan.

These discussions delved into economic security, supply chain resilience, and strategic collaboration in critical and emerging technologies. Both sides also reviewed the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, covering political relations, defense, economic cooperation, and people-to-people ties, alongside regional and global issues of shared interest.

The visit extended beyond governmental dialogues. The Foreign Secretary engaged with policymakers and senior representatives from pivotal Japanese organizations such as JETRO, JICA, JAXA, and the Ministry of Environment, underscoring India’s commitment to collaborative advancements in economic, environmental, and technological sectors

Foreign Secretary Misri held additional meetings with key Japanese officials, including Takehiko Matsuo, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, to explore avenues for economic and technological collaboration. Discussions with Keiichi Ichikawa, Deputy Secretary General of the National Security Secretariat, emphasized strengthening security and economic partnerships. He also conferred with Yoshimichi Terada, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism, to review progress on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project.
