BIMSTEC Discusses Key Areas of Cooperation and Finalizes New Initiatives
- During the meeting, senior officials reviewed the progress made since the previous meeting held in March 2023
- They deliberated on several priority areas for enhanced cooperation within the region, including sustainable development, regional connectivity, security concerns, and people-to-people exchanges
Shri Jaideep Mazumdar, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, represented India at the 24th BIMSTEC Senior Officials’ Meeting (SOM) hosted by Thailand virtually on December 19, 2024. The meeting brought together senior officials from BIMSTEC member states to review the progress of regional cooperation and discuss key priorities for the future.
The discussions also included preparations for the forthcoming 6th BIMSTEC Summit, where key decisions on the future direction of the organization will be made.
The meeting also saw the finalization of several important documents, including Plans of Action for cooperation in specific areas, the establishment of new cooperation mechanisms, and strengthening collaboration with external partners
The Indian delegation, led by Shri Jaideep Mazumdar, reiterated India’s unwavering commitment to BIMSTEC and its vision for a more robust, vibrant, and prosperous regional cooperation framework.
