Governor Mike DeWine Signs Historic Bill Recognizing Hindu Contributions
The US state of Ohio officially designated October as ‘Hindu Heritage Month’ on Wednesday, following Governor Mike DeWine’s signing of House Bill 173 reported gujaratsamachar.com.
Honoring Hindu Heritage in Ohio
The legislation, initially championed by former Ohio Senator Niraj Antani, marks a significant milestone for the Hindu community. Antani, the first Hindu state senator in Ohio’s 221-year history, expressed pride and excitement, stating,
“This is a huge win for Hindus across Ohio and the country. Now, every October, we will celebrate our community officially in Ohio.”
A Collaborative Achievement
The bill signing ceremony included prominent community leaders, including Hindu American Foundation Executive Director Suhag Shukla. Antani credited the success to collective advocacy efforts, saying, “This was the culmination of a lot of work by Hindu advocates here in Ohio and across the country, and I was very happy to partner with them to get this passed.”
A Legacy of Recognition and Celebration
The declaration ensures that Ohio will annually honor the contributions of the Hindu community, celebrating its rich cultural heritage and traditions throughout October.
