Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri Pabitra Margherita, conducted a significant visit to the Philippines, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) from 14 to 21 January 2025. This visit underscored India’s commitment to deepening relations with the Indo-Pacific region.

In the Philippines, the Minister paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and held meetings with President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique A. Manalo. Discussions focused on enhancing bilateral ties and celebrating 75 years of diplomatic relations.

Historic milestones achieved in diplomatic outreach and development cooperation

During his visit to Palau, Shri Margherita attended the inauguration of President Surangel Whipps Jr.’s second term and handed over 12 water tanks for rainwater harvesting on Peleliu Island. This marked the first visit by an Indian Minister of State to Palau. He also engaged with leaders from Japan, Papua New Guinea, and the Marshall Islands.

In FSM, the Minister met with President Wesley W. Simina and other high-ranking officials to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and development cooperation. This inaugural ministerial visit to FSM highlighted India’s growing engagement with the Pacific Island countries.
