UN General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir met TS Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador, who will be President of the Security Council for the month of August
India has been commended by UN General Assembly President Volkan Bozkir for a rich programme of work during the country’s presidency of the UN Security Council in August.
Among the highlights will be debates on maritime security, peacekeeping and threats to international peace and security by terrorism.
Bozkir met TS Tirumurti, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador, who will be President of the Security Council for the month of August.
This is as per the meeting points released by the President of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. The 76th Session of the General Assembly in September also came up for a discussion.
Debates on maritime security, peacekeeping and threats to international peace and security by terrorism would be highlights of debate at UNGA in August
Bozkir and Tirumurti will work together throughout the month of August.
The UN human rights experts included Special Rapporteur (They are part of the Special Procedures of the Human Rights Council, the largest body of independent experts in the UN Human Rights system) on adequate housing and on the right to non-discrimination in this context Balakrishnan Rajagopal, Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders Mary Lawlor and Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Cecilia Jimenez-Damary.
Special Rapporteur on minority issues Fernand de Varennes, Special Rapporteur on the human rights to safe drinking water and sanitation Pedro Arrojo-Agudo, Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights Olivier De Schutter, Special Rapporteur on the right to education Koumbou Boly Barry were also part of the group of UN human rights experts.
