NEW DELHI: India has strongly criticized Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his recent comments on Kashmir, calling them “objectionable” and “unwarranted.” The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that a formal protest has been lodged with the Turkish ambassador in New Delhi, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, in a weekly briefing, said, “We reject such objectionable comments on matters internal to India. We have lodged a strong protest with the Turkish ambassador. Such unwarranted statements on India’s territorial integrity and sovereignty are unacceptable. Jammu and Kashmir are integral parts of India, and no other country has any locus standi to comment on it. It would be better if Pakistan’s policy of using cross-border terrorism against India, the biggest threat to the people of Jammu and Kashmir, was called out.”

Pakistan has been actively seeking support from Turkey to bolster its position on Kashmir, while India continues to assert its sovereignty over the region and dismiss any third-party involvement

Turkey’s Stand and India’s Response

The controversy arose after President Erdogan, following talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, called for UN-led dialogue on Kashmir. “Our state and our nation, as in the past, stands in solidarity with our Kashmiri brothers today,” Erdogan said.

India rejects any external comments on its internal matters and asserts that Jammu and Kashmir are integral parts of the country

India has consistently opposed any international intervention on Kashmir, maintaining that the issue is a bilateral matter between India and Pakistan. New Delhi views Turkey’s statements as an attempt to internationalize a matter that is strictly internal.
