Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, the UAE’s Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, emphasized that the long-standing friendship between the UAE and India will foster new partnerships and joint ventures to address global challenges. Speaking at the Indiaspora Forum for Good in Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Nahyan highlighted the shared values between the two nations as a foundation for future cooperation, reported thenationalnews.com.

Sheikh Nahyan praised the Indian community’s contributions to the UAE’s growth.

Addressing approximately 700 Indian entrepreneurs, technology leaders, philanthropists, and NGO founders, Sheikh Nahyan underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation in tackling global issues. He noted that the Indian community has played a significant role in the UAE’s development long before the discovery of oil.

Strengthening Bilateral Relations

Sheikh Nahyan highlighted the symbolic importance of the Baps Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi, describing it as a testament to the UAE’s appreciation of the Indian community. He revealed that President Sheikh Mohamed not only granted land for the temple but also approved elevating the structure to make it visible from afar.

“We must all work together to create and preserve a world order that promotes hope and understanding, stability, cooperation, and prosperity,” Sheikh Nahyan said, emphasizing the UAE’s commitment to being a global force for peace.

Sunjay Sudhir, India’s ambassador to the UAE, described the Emirates as India’s most strategic partner in the Middle East. He highlighted the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022, which elevated bilateral trade to over $85 billion, making India the UAE’s largest trading partner and the UAE India’s third-largest.

A Future of Shared Prosperity

The close diplomatic ties are reflected in high-level visits between the two nations. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the UAE three times in the past 18 months, while Sheikh Mohamed and Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, have made reciprocal visits to India.

The partnership extends to education, with the Indian Institute of Technology’s first overseas branch opening in Abu Dhabi and plans underway to launch the Indian Institute of Management’s first international campus in Dubai.

Indian Diaspora’s Role in Global Good

MR Rangaswami, founder of Indiaspora, described the organization’s mission to unite global Indian-origin leaders as a “force of good.” Billionaire Ajay Piramal stressed the importance of collaborating with the Indian government and NGOs to improve education and healthcare at the grassroots level.

“The Indian diaspora is happy to give back,” Piramal said, highlighting the community’s commitment to co-creating sustainable solutions through public-private partnerships.
