The Indian diaspora has played a crucial role in shaping the UAE’s social and economic landscape, according to a report launched by Indiaspora, a non-profit network of global Indian-origin leaders. The report, “Indian Diaspora in the UAE: From Ancient Legacy to Modern Triumphs,” was presented at the Forum for Good conference in Abu Dhabi, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

The report, co-authored by Indiaspora and The Boston Consulting Group, highlights the growth of the Indian expatriate community in the UAE, which has expanded from around 5,000 in 1975 to a significant 3.9 million today. The Indian diaspora is not only contributing to the UAE’s economic diversification but also strengthening the country’s global relations.

The report also emphasizes the cultural and social integration of the Indian community, noting the shared values, ease of doing business, and the UAE’s proactive policies, such as the introduction of the Golden Visa and the establishment of the AI Ministry
The report emphasizes the growing role of Indian entrepreneurs and professionals in the UAE’s transition from an oil-dependent economy to one focused on technology, innovation, and high-growth sectors like AI, fintech, and blockchain. Indian talent is increasingly contributing to the UAE’s competitive edge in these industries.
Sanjeev Joshipura, Executive Director of Indiaspora, said, “Our platform amplifies the diaspora’s contributions across various fields like entrepreneurship, healthcare, and AI, making it a key player in shaping the UAE’s future.”
Sectoral Contributions and Economic Influence
According to the report, Indian-origin businesses such as Nikai Group, Lulu Group, Landmark Group, and Joyalukkas have made significant investments in the UAE, further fueling the economy.
Indian doctors and nurses are also integral to the UAE’s healthcare system, with over 25,000 Indian doctors and 55,000 nurses working in the country.
Dr. Azad Moopen (Aster Healthcare) and Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil (VPS Healthcare) are among notable Indian entrepreneurs who have raised the bar in medical excellence.
Challenges Persist Despite Opportunities
While the UAE continues to offer a favorable business environment and high standards of living, challenges remain for blue-collar workers, including workplace safety, long working hours, and the high cost of living. Despite these hurdles, the Indian diaspora is committed to furthering the UAE’s development.
