A concrete bridge constructed with India’s assistance under the “Nepal-India Development Cooperation” initiative was inaugurated in Birgunj, located in Nepal’s Bara district, on Saturday. The bridge, part of a community development project, spans the Bangari River on the Bhaluhi-Bharwalia-8 route, reported aninews.in.

The inauguration ceremony was jointly led by India’s Consulate General in Birgunj, Devi Sahay Meena, and Superintendent Engineer Shubharaj Neupane of the Federal Road Supervision and Monitoring Office, Kathmandu.

“With the construction of this bridge, local residents will experience improved livelihoods and easier access to transportation,” said Meena, emphasizing that the project addresses the specific needs of the local community.

The new bridge enhances local connectivity and supports socio-economic development in the region

Neupane highlighted the bridge’s positive impact on the area’s economic and social activities. “Previously, there was no bridge, making movement challenging. This new infrastructure will boost economic growth and improve daily life,” he stated.

The newly completed RCS bridge connects the villages of Bhaluhi-Bharwalia, Pheta, and surrounding areas with the Birgunj metropolis, improving transportation and fostering regional development.

The Government of India invested Nepali Rupees (NRs) 1.96 crore to construct the bridge. Since 2003, India has supported over 563 high-impact community development projects across Nepal’s seven provinces, including health, education, water, connectivity, and sanitation.

Under the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of India in Birgunj, 74 programs have been approved, with 56 projects already completed. India has also gifted 97 ambulances and 38 school buses to various institutions, including 13 ambulances and four school buses provided to hospitals, health posts, and educational institutions in the region.

Consul General Meena emphasized the deep and multi-dimensional development partnership between India and Nepal, reinforcing the strong people-to-people ties between the two countries.
