Indian-origin Kashyap ‘Kash’ Patel, recently appointed as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), took to social media platform X to share an article from an Asian weekly publication in the US. The article highlights how Hindu philosophy played a key role in shaping his perspective on life, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

Hinduism and Patel’s Perspective on Life

The article notes that Patel’s upbringing was deeply rooted in Hindu values, particularly dedication, respect, and the pursuit of knowledge. These core principles guided his early years and professional journey.

Patel’s parents raised him with a profound respect for all faiths, a belief system influenced by Swami Vivekananda’s 1893 speech at the Chicago Parliament of Religions, which preached universal tolerance.

Patel’s Viral Moment at FBI Confirmation Hearing

Before this, Patel made headlines on January 31 when he touched his parents’ feet at the FBI confirmation hearing, a gesture of deep Indian cultural respect.

As he began his testimony, Patel introduced his parents seated behind him and greeted them with ‘Jai Shri Krishna’. He shared that his father fled Uganda during Idi Amin’s brutal rule, a period during which 300,000 people were killed based on their ethnicity.

Growing Up ‘The Indian Way’ in the US

Patel recalled his childhood in New York, growing up in a joint Indian family where his father’s seven siblings, their spouses, and many children lived together.

“But we would soon learn the American way,” he added, highlighting how immigrant experiences shaped his identity.
