Gujarati man fatally stabbed by Indian-Origin roommate during party in Australia

A late-night celebration in Melbourne turned tragic as an argument escalated to murder

A 39-year-old Gujarati man, Mihir Desai, originally from Degam village in Navsari’s Chikhli taluka, was brutally stabbed to death by his Indian-origin roommate during a party at their shared accommodation on Winton Street, Burwood, Melbourne, on Tuesday night, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

What began as a casual get-together among roommates ended in a fatal dispute, leaving the Indian community in shock.

According to reports, Desai was attacked following a heated argument with a 42-year-old roommate, who hails from Punjab. The altercation, which unfolded in the middle of the celebration, turned violent, with the accused allegedly stabbing Desai multiple times. Despite the swift arrival of emergency services and local police, Desai was declared dead at the scene.

Following the incident, the accused was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder.

The Indian community in Melbourne has now come together to arrange the repatriation of Desai’s body to India, where his grieving mother Mayaben, sister, and brother-in-law in Germany await his return.
