In a landmark move, Anita Anand has been named Minister of Foreign Affairs, becoming the first Hindu and first woman of Indian origin to hold the post. Born in Kentville, Nova Scotia, to Tamil and Punjabi parents, Anand is a respected legal scholar with degrees from Dalhousie University, the University of Toronto, and Oxford University. She previously served as Minister of National Defence.
Maninder Sidhu, the MP from Brampton East, assumes the role of Minister of International Trade. Sidhu, who immigrated from Punjab as a child, is expected to play a critical role amid evolving US-Canada trade dynamics. He has previously served as a parliamentary secretary.
