US Embassy issues stern warning to Indian visa holders on overstays

Overstaying Could Lead to Deportation or Permanent Ban, Says US Advisory

The United States has issued a strict advisory to Indian nationals, warning that overstaying the duration of their visas could lead to severe penalties, including deportation or a permanent ban from entering the country again, reported gujaratsamachar.com.

US Embassy Highlights Tougher Immigration Enforcement for Indian Travellers

In a recent social media advisory, the US Embassy in India cautioned all non-immigrant visa holders — including students, workers, and tourists — to strictly adhere to the duration of stay permitted upon their arrival. “If you remain in the United States beyond your authorised stay, you may be deported or permanently banned from returning,” the embassy stated in a post on X.

The embassy urged Indian citizens to carefully review their visa terms and follow all conditions of entry to avoid falling afoul of US immigration laws.

The warning comes amid a broader initiative by the US government to reinforce its immigration policies and reduce the number of visa overstays. Officials stressed that even a brief overstay could carry lasting consequences, affecting an individual’s eligibility for future travel to the US.

As part of earlier efforts, the Trump administration had also launched a controversial self-deportation program, offering $1,000 to undocumented immigrants who voluntarily leave the country through a dedicated government app.
