Authorities from the Konaseema Centre for Migration have initiated urgent steps to bring home Savarapu Ramalakshmi, a woman from Vilasa village in Ainavilli mandal, who was reportedly stranded in Muscat, Oman, reported thehansindia.com.

Ramalakshmi had gone to Muscat in March this year after being recruited by an agent from West Godavari district for an overseas job.

However, soon after taking up employment, she alleged mistreatment by her employers, including being denied adequate food. In a desperate cry for help, she circulated a tearful video message via WhatsApp groups, seeking intervention from government officials and public representatives.

  • Despite approaching the Indian Embassy in Muscat, Ramalakshmi said she initially received no support

  • Her son, Satish, confirmed that a formal police complaint had been filed in India to highlight her ordeal

Following widespread circulation of her video, officials at the Konaseema Centre for Migration, in coordination with the Indian Embassy in Muscat, acted promptly. “All necessary arrangements have been made for her return within the next two days,” said BLN Rajakumari, District Revenue Officer and Nodal Officer of the Konaseema Centre for Migration.

Community Intervention Shows Impact

The case underscores the risks many women face when migrating for work through unverified agents. It also highlights the importance of government and community intervention in responding swiftly to such distress calls.

The incident serves as a reminder of the need for stronger oversight on overseas job placements and better support systems for Indian migrant workers abroad.
