Police register case against 50-year-old for providing fake document to secure MBBS seat under NRI quota
The Variety Hall Road police in Coimbatore have booked a 50-year-old man, identified as Vellingiri of Madurai Veeran Kovil Street, Edayarpalayam, for allegedly arranging a forged relationship certificate for an NRI medical aspirant, reported thehindu.com.
The accused charged ₹10,000 for the fake certificate, which was later detected and led to the cancellation of the student’s application.

Following a complaint by the student, police registered a case under sections 336(3), 340(1) and 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Investigations are ongoing
According to police, an 18-year-old medical aspirant from Ponnaiahrajapuram had sought an MBBS seat under the NRI quota, which requires a valid NEET score and participation in statewide counselling. In March this year, he approached Vellingiri—known to his father—for a relationship certificate to establish ties with his NRI sponsor. The accused allegedly provided a forged certificate, assuring the student it was genuine.
