Fourth such incident this year, Indian consulate reacts

BAPS temple in Indiana vandalised with anti-India graffiti; officials call for accountability and unity.
A BAPS Swaminarayan temple in Greenwood, Indiana, was defaced with anti-India graffiti allegedly by pro-Khalistani separatists. The graffiti read “Hindu-stan Modi Murdabad,” sparking outrage among the Hindu community in the US, reported gujaratsamachar.com.
The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) condemned the act, calling it part of a recurring pattern. “Vandalising temples with anti-India graffiti is a tactic often used by pro-Khalistan separatist activists—and a stark reminder of how slurring American Hindus as ‘Hindutva’ fuels hate like this,” HAF said in a statement. The organisation urged US officials to go beyond “empty condemnations” and ensure perpetrators face justice.
This marks the fourth desecration of a Hindu temple in the US in 2025, raising serious concerns about rising hate-driven incidents targeting American Hindus
Reacting strongly, the Consulate General of India in Chicago described the desecration as “reprehensible.” It confirmed that the matter has been raised with law enforcement authorities for prompt action and noted that the Consul General addressed a gathering of devotees and local leaders, including the Mayor of Greenwood, calling for unity and vigilance against such acts.
This latest attack follows a string of similar incidents. In June, the ISKCON Sri Sri Radha Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, Utah, came under fire during a suspected hate crime, with nearly 30 rounds of bullets hitting the property. Earlier in March, the BAPS temple in Chino Hills, California, was vandalised days before a so-called “Khalistani referendum” in Los Angeles.
The Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA) stated that seven attacks on Hindu temples have been reported across the US between January 2024 and July 2025, spanning California, New York, Minnesota, Texas, and Utah. Many of these incidents involved graffiti with hate-filled slogans such as “Hindus go back.”
