Union Minister of State for Textiles and External Affairs Pabitra Margherita today refuted claims by AJP leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi that Assamese NRIs in Singapore contributed funds to repatriate Zubeen Garg’s body. The minister emphasized that all arrangements were handled by the Assam government, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.

Margherita stated that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally coordinated with the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore to ensure Garg’s body was brought back with full dignity and honours

Speaking at Jorhat Circuit House, Margherita said he and the Chief Minister contacted Dr Shilpak Ambule, the Indian High Commissioner in Singapore, to facilitate the repatriation. Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota also sent a letter on September 20 assuring that the State Government would cover all expenses, explicitly requesting that no external contributions or sponsorships be involved.

Brushing aside Gogoi’s allegations, Margherita criticized attempts to politicize the tragedy. “The entire State is mourning the loss of Zubeen Garg. Only a few are trying to play politics over his death,” he said, adding that the government has constituted an SIT to investigate the cause of death and ensure justice.

Meanwhile, preparations for the 13th-day rituals at Jorhat Stadium on October 1 are underway, overseen by a 48-member committee chaired by Assam minister Bimal Borah, which met today to finalize arrangements.
