An Indian-origin surgeon, who had served in the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) for 25 years, has been struck off the UK medical register after being found guilty of making antisemitic comments on Facebook, including referring to a Jewish man as “circumcised vermin” and a “Jewish rodent, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com.”

Dr. Manoj Sen, who moved to the UK in 1985 after graduating from Calcutta Medical College, was found guilty of serious misconduct by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS).

The tribunal heard that Sen’s offensive comments were made on October 10, 2023, three days after the Nova Festival massacre, in response to a man identified as Mr. A. Sen’s remarks included deeply offensive phrases such as “When dealing with circumcised vermin like you, not even the strongest measures will help,” and that he was “regretful enough rats were not liquidated at Auschwitz.”

In the same tirade, Sen allegedly called Mr. A a “Jewish c**t,” “Jewboy,” and wrote, “Die Juden sind unsere Ungluck (The Jews are our misfortune).” He also commented, “He belongs in the flames of a crematorium.” At the time, Sen was employed as a surgeon at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow.

The General Medical Council (GMC) said Sen’s comments were ‘deeply antisemitic, inexcusable, and incompatible with the duties of a medical professional.’

Following a complaint from Mr. A, Sen was arrested and issued a police caution. The MPTS ruled that his conduct amounted to serious professional misconduct, noting that his words “went far beyond any acceptable or lawful expression of opinion.”

“The language used suggested a deep hostility towards Jews as a group, rather than merely a personal attack on the complainant,” the tribunal said, adding that Sen had brought the medical profession into disrepute

The tribunal also noted the absence of a formal apology and stated that his degree of hostility was incompatible with the duties of a doctor to treat patients equally.

Sen informed the GMC that he did not wish to take part in the disciplinary hearing, writing on August 13: “To go ahead and good luck.”

In a February 2024 email to the GMC, Sen said, “In the heat of the moment I made wrongful and injudicious remarks — for which I have apologised in public on Facebook as well as privately to the police. Those remarks are entirely out of character.”
