Etsy appoints Goyal as next CEO, joining the ranks of global tech leaders of Indian origin
Kruti Patel Goyal, a 49-year-old Indian-origin executive, is set to become the next CEO of Etsy Inc., one of the world’s most recognisable online marketplaces for handmade and vintage goods. With this appointment, she will lead a company valued at over ₹54,481 crore (USD 6.14 billion) and join the ranks of prominent Indian-origin tech leaders such as Sundar Pichai of Google and Satya Nadella of Microsoft, reported hindustantimes.com.
Etsy announced on Wednesday that Goyal, who currently serves as Chief Growth Officer and President, will succeed long-time CEO Josh Silverman on January 1, 2026. Silverman transformed Etsy from a niche craft platform into a public e-commerce powerhouse over his eight-year tenure.
Goyal takes the helm at Etsy after 14 years, bringing deep expertise in product, growth, and strategy, while inheriting the challenge of sustaining growth in a competitive e-commerce landscape
Born to Indian parents and raised in the US, Goyal began her career in mergers and acquisitions at Morgan Stanley before joining General Atlantic Partners, a global growth equity firm. She later held strategic roles at Viacom and (PRODUCT)RED, gaining experience at the intersection of business, creativity, and social impact — themes that continue to define Etsy’s culture.
Since joining Etsy in 2011, Goyal has held leadership roles across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Trust and Safety, and Operations. As Chief Product Officer in 2019, she refined seller tools, enhanced buyer recommendations, and scaled technology infrastructure. From 2021 to 2025, she led Depop, the secondhand fashion marketplace acquired by Etsy for USD 1.6 billion, revamping its strategy and increasing engagement among Gen Z shoppers before returning to Etsy as President and Chief Growth Officer.
Etsy now faces headwinds as global e-commerce growth slows, with gross merchandise sales plateauing and competition intensifying from platforms like Amazon, Shein, and Temu. Goyal’s leadership is expected to refocus the company on creativity, community, and sustainable commerce, leveraging her expertise in user experience, trust, and inclusive innovation to restore momentum.
With this appointment, Goyal joins a prestigious group of Indian-origin executives leading major technology firms, including Sundar Pichai (Google), Satya Nadella (Microsoft), Arvind Krishna (IBM), and Shantanu Narayen (Adobe), highlighting the global recognition of Indian-origin talent in tech leadership.
