* Law enforcement officials reiterated that efforts are ongoing to locate and bring back other wanted fugitives hiding overseas

The repatriation of Aman, they said, sends a strong message that absconding criminals will be pursued relentlessly, regardless of where they attempt to seek refuge
In a significant boost to India’s efforts to track and repatriate absconding criminals, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully coordinated the return of wanted fugitive Aman from the United States to India. The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and US authorities, underscoring the growing effectiveness of international law enforcement cooperation.

According to the CBI, Aman was taken into custody by a special team of Haryana Police upon his arrival at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport

He has since been placed under arrest and will be produced before the appropriate court to face trial in connection with multiple serious criminal cases registered against him in Haryana
Aman, also known as Aman Bhainswal, is wanted by the Haryana Police for his alleged involvement in grave offences including murder, rioting, and criminal conspiracy. Investigators describe him as a notorious criminal and a key operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, one of the most feared organised crime networks operating across several Indian states and with international links.
Officials said Aman was earlier arrested in India in connection with these cases but was later released on bail. Taking advantage of the relief granted by the court, he allegedly failed to appear for trial proceedings and subsequently fled the country, prompting law enforcement agencies to declare him an absconder. His disappearance posed a challenge to investigators, particularly given his alleged links to organised crime and the potential threat he posed to public safety.
Following a request from the Haryana Police, the CBI approached INTERPOL to issue a Red Notice against Aman, alerting law enforcement agencies worldwide about his fugitive status. The Red Notice played a crucial role in tracking his movements abroad and facilitating his detention by US authorities, paving the way for his eventual deportation to India.
The CBI stated that the successful return of Aman reflects India’s strengthened mechanisms for pursuing fugitives who attempt to evade justice by crossing international borders. It also highlights the importance of close coordination between central agencies, state police forces, and foreign governments in tackling transnational crime.
