New Delhi, January 13, 2026

The energy at Talkatora Indoor Stadium soared on Monday as BJP legislator and former Manipur Rural Development Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh officially inaugurated the 39th National Sub-Junior Kyorugi and 14th National Sub-Junior Poomsae Taekwondo Championship, setting the stage for an action-packed showcase of India’s youngest martial arts talent.

Organised by the Delhi Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Delhi Olympic Association, the championship has brought together promising sub-junior athletes from across the country, all vying to make their mark on the national stage.

While Kyorugi highlights the high-intensity sparring side of Taekwondo, Poomsae puts the spotlight on precision, balance, and technique through choreographed forms—offering spectators a complete view of the sport’s dynamism and discipline

Adding to the excitement is the presence of Singh himself, a seasoned Taekwondo practitioner with deep roots in the sport. Recently awarded his 5th Dan in traditional Taekwondo by the Global Traditional Taekwondo Federation, Seoul, Singh is a graduate of the prestigious World Taekwondo Academy (Kukkiwon), Seoul. He was among the pioneers who helped popularise Taekwondo in India during the 1980s and played a key role in the formation of the Taekwondo Federation of India.

Singh’s contributions extend beyond the mat. As the founding president of the All Assam Taekwondo Association in 1982 and later as vice president of the national federation, he has been instrumental in nurturing the sport across Manipur and the wider country.

With fierce competition, youthful flair, and a strong focus on grassroots development, the championship promises to be a crucial stepping stone for India’s next generation of Taekwondo stars.
