The United States has announced a significant forward movement in its March 2026 Visa Bulletin, offering long-awaited relief to thousands of Indian professionals waiting for green cards.
According to the United States Department of State, India’s employment-based EB-2 category has advanced by 11 months, moving the final action date to 1 November 2014. The EB-1 category has also progressed by four months to 1 December 2023. Meanwhile, the EB-4 category has jumped by more than two years, marking one of the biggest shifts in recent times.
visahq.com quoted immigration lawyer Rahul Reddy, who described the development as an “abrupt but welcome correction”.
He explained that unused family-based visa numbers were transferred to employment categories, creating space for this sudden movement.

For many Indian applicants stuck in long queues, this update could be life-changing
-
Those whose priority dates are now current may soon file adjustment-of-status applications
-
This allows them to apply for work permits and travel documents while their green card cases are under review
Employers are also expected to see a rise in applications and should ensure all required paperwork, including labour certifications and approved petitions, is ready. Immigration experts advise eligible applicants to act quickly, as visa dates can move backwards if annual limits are reached.
Family-sponsored visa categories remain largely unchanged, and India’s EB-3 skilled worker category has not moved. The US Citizenship and Immigration Services is yet to confirm whether it will accept the “Dates for Filing” chart, which could allow even more applicants to file early.
