Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reaffirmed India’s firm commitment to supporting the development priorities of Mauritius during talks with Mauritian Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in New Delhi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders reviewed the main pillars of their long-standing partnership. They discussed progress under the Special Economic Package announced by India and explored ways to strengthen cooperation, especially in emerging technologies. Both leaders agreed to work closely to boost shared growth and prosperity.

  • Prime Minister Modi reiterated that Mauritius remains central to India’s Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) and its Neighbourhood First Policy

  • He underlined India’s continued support for infrastructure, healthcare and job creation in Mauritius

Ramgoolam noted that this was his third meeting with  Modi in recent months, following discussions in Mauritius in March 2025 and in Varanasi last September. He described the frequent meetings as a clear sign of strengthening ties and thanked the Indian Prime Minister for his warm welcome and cooperation.

Last week, the two leaders also spoke by phone to review progress in their wide-ranging partnership ahead of the summit. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region.

India and Mauritius share deep historical, cultural and people-to-people links. Mauritius is regarded as a key maritime partner for India and an important voice in the Global South.
