Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has been recognised as Asia-Pacific’s Best Airport for Departures in the 2025 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Customer Experience Awards. The honour was given in the category for airports handling more than 40 million passengers a year, based entirely on passenger feedback collected throughout the year.

The ASQ programme, run by Airports Council International (ACI), is independently audited and measures the full departure experience. This includes access to the terminal, check-in, security screening, boarding efficiency, cleanliness, staff support, and the overall ambience, as well as shopping and dining options.

  • Despite being the world’s busiest single-runway airport by annual passenger traffic, CSMIA has introduced several digital and operational upgrades to improve efficiency

  • These include expanded DigiYatra biometric e-gates for contactless entry and security checks, more self-check-in kiosks, and self-baggage drop systems to speed up processing

The airport has also introduced hybrid self-baggage drop units that can operate in both assisted and automated modes, helping manage heavy passenger volumes during peak periods. International travellers benefit from the Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme, which offers quicker clearance for registered users.

Improvements in signage, housekeeping, and queue management have further enhanced the departure experience. Passengers can also enjoy premium lounges, a wide range of retail and dining outlets, and the UDAN Yatri Café, which offers affordable food and beverages. At Terminal 2, the Artbeat of New India museum corridor adds a cultural touch, showcasing thousands of artefacts and installations.
