Army’s education scheme has an olive branch

With this pen-before-the-sword move, the Indian Army hopes to win the hearts and minds of youth in Jammu &Kaskmir and Ladakh

Students in Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh are the recipients of a new education programme sponsorship.

Under this programme, 110 students will be admitted to the Army’s residential public schools and higher education institutions across the country from the current academic year, an Army spokesperson said.

The programme is part of ‘Operation Sadhbhavana (goodwill), a new Army initiative to win the hearts and minds of people in these two Union Territories.

The educational sponsorship programme from the Army’s Northern Command Headquarters, especially applies to domiciled students of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

According to the spokesperson, students would have to sit for an admission test from next year onwards.

The sponsorship programme aims to reach out to deserving students with quality education, the army spokesperson said.
