An Indian-origin businessman was shot dead in Nairobi in what authorities believe to be a targeted killing, with the incident reported within the past 24 hours. The victim, a prominent trader with long-standing ties to the Indian diaspora community, was attacked while leaving his office in the city’s commercial district late in the evening.
According to police reports, two armed assailants on a motorcycle intercepted the victim’s vehicle and opened fire at close range before fleeing the scene. Emergency responders rushed the victim to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Investigators have since launched a citywide manhunt and are analysing CCTV footage from surrounding streets.

“We are treating this as a planned attack and examining all possible motives, including business disputes and organised crime involvement,” a senior police official stated

Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the victim was being tracked prior to the incident
The Indian High Commission in Kenya has been informed and is providing assistance to the victim’s family. Members of the Indian community in Nairobi have expressed deep concern, describing the killing as both shocking and unsettling.
Security experts note that while such incidents remain relatively rare, targeted attacks on business figures can signal deeper criminal dynamics. “These events often point to underlying financial or network conflicts,” one analyst observed.
