The Global Indian Diaspora Alliance (GLO-INDIA) hosted its first-ever “Icons of Impact Gala” in New Jersey on 29 May 2026, bringing together prominent members of the Indian diaspora to celebrate leadership, innovation and community service.

The evening commenced with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony led by Dr Rajeev Mehta, Chairman of GLO-INDIA; H. S. Panaser, President of the organisation; Dinesh Mittal, Co-Chairman; and Rajlaxmi Kadam, Consul (Trade) at the Consulate General of India in New York, representing Consul General Binaya S. Pradhan.

The event was hosted by Ajooni Kaur of Sanofi and Alicia Kaur of Columbia University. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, attendees observed the national anthems of the United States and India, performed by Alicia Kaur, a former participant in The X Factor. Her rendition received a warm response from guests.

In their opening remarks, Dr Mehta, Panaser and Kadam highlighted the growing influence of the Indian diaspora worldwide and stressed the importance of leadership, service, innovation and international collaboration in shaping stronger communities.

Among the distinguished speakers was Padma Shri awardee Dr Sudhir Parikh, Chairman of Parikh Worldwide Media and ITV Gold, who addressed attendees during the programme

A key highlight of the gala was the recognition of individuals whose work has made a meaningful impact across a wide range of sectors, including business, healthcare, science, technology, public policy, agriculture and community development. Organisers said the awards were intended to celebrate excellence while inspiring future generations of leaders.

GLO-INDIA also acknowledged the contributions of Dr Manjeet K. Panaser, President of the Women’s Council, for her role in supporting the successful launch of the event. Appreciation was also extended to Ajooni Kaur and Alicia Kaur for their work as hosts and performers, as well as Raj Tiwari for his efforts in helping organise the inaugural gala.

The event marked a significant milestone for GLO-INDIA as it seeks to strengthen connections within the global Indian diaspora and recognise individuals making a lasting impact on society.
