Strong growth highlights Oman’s rising appeal among Indian travellers and strengthens bilateral tourism ties
Oman recorded its highest-ever monthly arrival of Indian tourists in May 2026, with visitor numbers rising 67 per cent year-on-year, reflecting strong demand from one of the Sultanate’s fastest-growing tourism markets.
According to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman, 81,797 Indian travellers visited the country in May, making it the best-performing month on record for arrivals from India. The surge contributed to a total of 331,365 Indian visitors between January and May 2026, representing a 36 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.
The positive momentum was evident from the start of the year. January registered 65,816 Indian arrivals, up 61 per cent from January 2025, signalling sustained interest among Indian travellers in Oman as a leisure, business and short-break destination.
Tourism officials attributed the growth to improved air connectivity, targeted marketing campaigns and Oman’s growing popularity among Indian holidaymakers seeking nature, culture, adventure and luxury experiences
The country’s diverse attractions, including Muscat, Salalah, mountain landscapes and coastal destinations, have continued to attract visitors from across India
The rise in Indian arrivals comes as Middle Eastern destinations increasingly focus on India’s expanding outbound travel market. Regional tourism authorities have intensified promotional activities and collaborated with airlines to boost capacity and encourage travel despite broader geopolitical challenges affecting parts of West Asia.
Industry observers believe the record-breaking performance underscores the importance of the Indian market for Oman’s tourism sector. Continued expansion of flight connectivity, simplified travel options and strong people-to-people ties between the two countries are expected to support further growth in visitor numbers during the remainder of 2026.
