Community members in Johannesburg say the Prime Minister’s visit reflects India’s growing global engagement and strengthens ties with overseas Indians
Members of the Indian diaspora in South Africa expressed enthusiasm ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Johannesburg for the 15th BRICS Summit, describing it as an important occasion for both the Indian community and bilateral relations.
Community representatives told ANI that preparations were underway to welcome the Prime Minister, with many looking forward to interacting with him during his visit. They said the visit reflects India’s expanding role on the global stage and reinforces its close engagement with overseas Indians.

The 15th BRICS Summit, hosted by South Africa in Johannesburg, brought together leaders of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to deliberate on issues including global economic cooperation, sustainable development, trade, investment and reforms of international institutions. The summit also focused on expanding collaboration among emerging economies and enhancing the voice of the Global South in global governance.
The Indian community in South Africa, one of the largest overseas Indian populations in Africa, has historically played a significant role in strengthening economic, cultural and educational ties between the two countries. Community members said the Prime Minister’s visit was a matter of pride and an opportunity to showcase the enduring relationship between India and South Africa.
Prime Minister Modi’s participation in the BRICS Summit also included bilateral engagements with fellow world leaders on the sidelines of the event, underscoring India’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with emerging economies and advancing cooperation on global issues.
