The Gulf destination offers direct air links from several Indian cities, along with beaches, mountains, heritage sites and outdoor experiences
Oman is emerging as a relatively affordable international travel option for Indian tourists this October, with improving weather conditions, direct flights from several Indian cities and a mix of cultural and outdoor attractions.
The neighbouring Gulf country offers an alternative to more popular destinations such as Thailand, Vietnam and Bali. Its appeal includes mountains, deserts, beaches and historic sites, while travel costs can be lower than those associated with Dubai.
For Indian travellers seeking a short-haul international break in October, Oman combines relatively easy connectivity with varied experiences across its cities, coastline, mountains and heritage sites
Muscat provides a convenient starting point. Visitors can explore the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Royal Opera House Muscat and Mutrah Souq, while Qurum Beach offers a coastal break. Further afield, Wadi Ash Shab combines mountain scenery with clear pools and is popular with visitors seeking outdoor activities.
For travellers interested in history, Oman offers Nizwa Fort, Jabreen Castle, Bait Al Zubair Museum and Al Alam Palace. The Bimmah Sinkhole and attractions linked to the country’s frankincense heritage provide additional options beyond Muscat.
October is also regarded as a transition period towards more comfortable conditions for sightseeing and outdoor activities, although temperatures can still be warm, particularly during the first part of the month. Travellers planning hikes or excursions may therefore prefer cooler morning hours.
Direct air connectivity further strengthens Oman’s appeal for Indian visitors. Recent fare comparisons cited by NDTV showed flights to Muscat from Mumbai from about Rs 17,079 and Bengaluru from Rs 16,773. Jaipur, Kochi, Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi and Lucknow also have direct options, although fares vary according to dates, airline and availability.
Airlines serving these routes include IndiGo, Oman Air, SalamAir, Air India Express and Air India.
