China launches spaceship Shenzhou-13 with a three-member crew

China today is cooperating with space experts from countries including France, Sweden, Russia and Italy. It is only the third country after the former Soviet Union and the United States to put a person in space

Landing people on the moon, building a scientific base are among projects being planned by China, which is also developing a highly secretive spaceplane.

In this backdrop, the spaceship Shenzhou-13 was launched by a Long March-2F rocket by China with a three-person crew. They are Pilot Zhai Zhigang, 55, Wang Yaping, 41 and Ye Guangfu, 41. It will be on a 6-month mission to a build space station. The country wants to set a new record for the length of time spent in space by Chinese astronauts. Once docking with the Tianhe module is done within the first six hours, the mission will begin and will work for the next 90 days that the crew is aboard. The same crew conducted two spacewalks and returned to Earth in mid-September. Shenzhou-13 is the fifth mission to the structure. There have been trips sans crews to deliver supplies.

With two more modules, Mengtian and Wentian, that are due to for launching 2022 end during the stay of the Shenzhou-14 crew, China has kept up with its promise to cooperate with other countries for the peaceful use of space

“Ode to the Motherland” was played by a military band as the crew was seen off. Three spacewalks will be conducted by the crew to install equipment for expanding the station. It will conduct experiments in space medicine and other fields and assess living conditions in the module. Over the next two years, China plans to send multiple crews to the station.

The US had kept China out of the International Space Station. China today is cooperating with space experts from countries including France, Sweden, Russia and Italy. It is only the third country after the former Soviet Union and the United States to put people in space. The country has expanded its work on lunar and Mars exploration. Soil from an asteroid and additional lunar samples are other targets for the space station.
