DDA move to offer parks for events aimed at enlivening green environment

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), is all for promoting greenery and is always on the lookout for activities to involve Delhiites in this effort.

In a step in this direction, DDA has now designated selected 20 parks out of 800 under its jurisdiction, for booking for art and culture-oriented events by individuals as well as educational institutions, registered under Societies Registration Act 1860, private firms, non-government organisations (NGOs) registered under the Companies Act 2013, and residents welfare associations duly registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 or DDA Management and Disposal of Housing Estates Regulations, 1968, RWAs, to further rejuvenate and brighten up the green environment in the city.

With rates varying as per location and level of park status, bookings can be made for 6-12 hours durations, the details of which are available on the official DDA website. The following parks have been selected :-  Lake Park, Pitampura; Sanjay Lake, Mayur Vihar; Indraprastha Park, Ring Road; Swarn Jayanti Park, Rohini; Ashta Kunj Park, Nehru Palace; Coronation Park, Burari; and Satpula Park, Malviya Nagar.

However, political functions and marriage ceremonies will not be allowed for booking in parks, no cooking will be allowed, and only ready-to-eat food will be permitted for consumption. Also, the site will have to be restored to its initial state, according to the policy.

With the aim to improve citizens’ quality of life and increase the city’s happiness index, the urban body said, it had classified the parks into two categories.

While ‘Category A’ will have an open park area, ‘Category B’ will entail specific facilities like amphitheatres, boat clubs within these parks.

According to the policy, if the entry ticket is above Rs 1,000, the DDA would charge an additional Rs 20,000 along with prescribed booking amount.
